A Legacy of Grit

it all began with a nickel per acre…..
now it’s a beautiful oasis in the heart of Kansas.

  • The operation was bought in 1930 by Georgia and Malin McKinney. They grew wheat and forage sorghum for the shorthorn herd. Malin also really enjoyed raising race horses.

  • Over the years Marvin Ray and Oreta McKinney continued alongside Georgia and Marlin. Marvin Ray eventually started his own trenching company to develop the countryside with irrigation. The operation grew but then in the 80’s took a hit with high interest rates and low commodity prices. They grew sweet potatoes, watermelons, cantelopes, onions, just a little bit of everything and anything. Marvin Ray was a builder and a doer, he loved to build equipment and tools that are still utilized on the operation today.

  • Today the operation still manages the same ground it did almost a 100 years later. MC- Ranch mainly grows wheat, alfalfa, corn, milo, hay, and cotton. Along with the farming, the family runs hereford mama cows on the native grass pasture. They also bring in custom stocker cattle to run on wheat pasture.
